Fat Cow Burgers is a locally owned burger/salad/milkshake place that just opened up outside of Southgate in the same complex as the Drunken Fish and TCBY. It features a wide selection of burgers and salads that have some pretty delicious toppings on them. Some delicious sounding milkshakes. And a selection of fries with toppings ex. duck fat. Yeah, when I heard that these fries were going to be tossed in duck fat and parmesan I got pretty excited. Especially because they were going to use fat to flavor an already flavorful deep fried stick of potato, which is hand cut. The result, however was that we discovered our palates were not that refined and the idealized deliciousness of rendered duck fat was lost on us. While still tasty, they were nothing seriously special. The burger I got was the Muffaletta burger. It has the 8 oz. burger with traditional muffaletta meat and olive salad on top. I gotta say that these burgers are mighty delicious. When I pressed the burger down and saw precious meat juices squirt out the sides, I knew we were in business. Their burgers are something to try. It was hard to not compare the place to another popular burger place, the chain called Five Guys. But the atmosphere was that of a “gourmet,” chill version of Five Guys. The wait for the food was longer than I would have liked, especially when there were no people ahead of us. And the cashier was friendly and knowledgeable about the questions I asked about the strange things on the menu. I think I will to back to try something else, but I will pass he fries and get what Harrison got, the crispy Onion Strings. And maybe get the petite 6 oz. burger. And then consider one of their milk shakes. The food pictured was super expensive for a burger place though…. This made me sad: $14.95 for the burger and the fries. I may have left the restaurant with a fat cow in my fat stomach, but not a fat wallet.
